Granger Construction was honored to be recognized at the 139th annual Construction Association of Michigan (CAM) Awards for its contributions to two of the top 12 projects featured in the 2024 October CAM Magazine Special Issue: Michigan State University’s Tom Izzo Football Building and Michigan State University Federal Credit Union’s 311 Abbot Building.
MSU Tom Izzo Football Building
The Michigan State University (MSU) Tom Izzo Football Building was a $68 million expansion and renovation of the Duffy Daugherty/Skandalaris Football Building on the East Lansing, MI campus. The 73,700-square-foot facility incorporated state-of-the-art infrastructure and design elements to focus on player development and well-being for MSU’s Big 10 Spartan Football team.
The project was designed to provide a transformative experience for MSU student-athletes and recruits, merging performance, comfort, and community in a manner that mirrors the teamwork and dedication of a championship-level football program. Construction began in April 2022 and was substantially completed in December 2023. MSU, in partnership with Granger Construction and Integrated Design Solutions, successfully executed this game plan. MSUFCU 311 Abbot
The Michigan State Federal Credit Union 311 Abbot Building was an 81,000-square-foot new build on the corner of Abbot and Albert in downtown East Lansing, MI. The seven-story brick building was constructed to serve as the relocated downtown brand from MSUFCU. The facility also includes additional multi-use spaces to serve the local community, including four tenant spaces and a community event space that can accommodate approximately 500 people.
The project team, including Granger Construction and Neumann/Smith, faced numerous challenges, including navigating the project’s location adjacent to existing structures and a busy downtown intersection.
