As one of the premier data center constructors in the Midwest, Granger Construction was selected to build a new state-of-the-art data center for Wayne State University.
The new building, to be constructed in a vacant lot adjacent to the C&IT building, will include approximately 6,000 SF of technology equipment and 4,000 SF of support space.
Work includes a new substation to feel the data center, along with relocation of existing utilities.
The Tier IV data center will include the following:
- A/B power distribution from the utility to to IT racks
- Electrical infrastructure to grow up to 1500kW IT capacity
- (4) 3000A underground duct bank feeders
- (2) 3000A ATS
- (6) 3000A Switchgear
- (2) 500kW PDU’s, expandable to (6) total
- (2) 500kVA UPS with 3-minute VRLA Batteries, expandable up to (8) systems total
- 800A A/B Busway throughout the data center to power IT racks
- Overhead feeder circuits
Security measures include:
- K8 rated anti-ram crash vehicle fence surrounding perimeter of the building
- Access card system to critical rooms
- Security cameras throughout interior and exterior
- Interior and exterior counter-terrorism measures
This project was also completed with sustainability goals in mind, targeting LEED Silver certification with the U.S. Green Building Council.
