Granger Construction Director of MEP Engineering Rich Corona attributes his interest in construction as sparking in high school when a drafting instructor introduced him to a co-op program: a summer job at a consulting engineering firm.

As of 2025, Rich has worked in the architecture, engineering and construction industry for over 25 years, having joined Granger in 2016 with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Oakland University. He currently leads a team of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) Engineers within Granger’s Preconstruction Estimating division.

“I have always enjoyed analyzing stuff and trying to learn more about how things work and how things were built. Growing up as a child during family events, everyone understood when I was over at the house, something was going to get disassembled and reassembled (i.e. doorknobs, drum sets, bicycles, toys, tables or chairs). The construction industry was a perfect career for me to continue this curiosity of discovery,” says Rich.

With an impressive resume of projects under his belt, Rich has a wealth of knowledge about the industry. His experience includes all phases of design, from conceptual through functional testing and post occupancy evaluation, to ensuring all facility systems are functioning as intended. Rich has been a part of higher education projects at schools such as Michigan State University, Michigan Technological University, Ferris State University, Eastern Michigan University, University of Michigan and many more.

When asked what the most meaningful part of his work is, Rich notes, “Assisting others in finding solutions to challenges that come up from time to time while a project is being built is my favorite part. I love to watch and learn from other engineers and skilled laborers on how they turn dreams and visions of others into a reality.”

Rich expressed that his favorite part of working at Granger Construction is helping people learn something new and succeed in what they like to do, whether it is a fellow employee, partner in construction or valued client. Rich believes that the best-in-class work culture at Granger is created by teamwork and having pride in what you do.

“It is a passion of mine to collaborate with other passionate people of various crafts and talents to help design and build facilities that can be appreciated by others who can enjoy working, playing, entertaining or learning for a lifetime,” Rich says.

Beyond his professional success, Rich prioritizes time with his wife and kids, embodying the same energy and commitment in his personal life. He gives this advice to anyone starting their construction career: “Work hard; don’t sacrifice time with the family; ask plenty of questions and appreciate the efforts of others around you.”
