Ingham County hired Granger as the Construction Manager to build the new Ingham County Animal Control Center, completed in 2019.
- This project involved building a new 17,000 SF, state-of-the-art facility to replace the older, outdated structure.
- The new building is about 1.5 times larger than the original shelter.
- It was constructed at the north end of the Ingham County Sheriff/County Justice Complex. Therefore, daily activities and traffic at these neighboring buildings were taken into consideration when planning safety and logistics for the project.
- The Ingham County Animal Control Millage funded the majority of the project. It was passed during the 2016 election, with additional funding from the Ingham County Animal Shelter fund.
- Granger administered the entire public bid opening with excellent results, which allowed the owner to add several alterations from their wish list while remaining under budget.
- Granger worked closely with designer Hobbs + Black and specialists from Animal Arts (from Denver, CO) to help the county achieve desired modernization for the facility.
- Features of the new design include separate dog and cat areas, enclosed kennels for dogs and a special CATIO (or 3-seasons type space especially designed for cats).
- The new shelter also allows increased capacity for sheltering animals, enhanced veterinary facilities, improved conditions for the animal adoption program and an overall better environment for the animals, staff and visitors.
